LED Light Therapy using Healite™ @ Elysium™

LED light therapy (LLT, Low Level Light Therapy) can be used as a stand-alone treatment to suppress active acne and to rejuvenate the skin, treating fine lines and wrinkles. It is also effective in treating muscle pain, joint pain and arthritis. In addition to this, it is used in combination with other skin treatments (such as post-surgery and post laser) to reduce bruising, pain and swelling, and to promote faster wound healing ultimately producing better results.

  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Wound healing
  • Postoperative bruising, swelling and pain

Key Benefits of LED Light Therapy:

  • Fast treatment (5-20 minutes)
  • No pain
  • No downtime

FAQ’s

How does LED Light Therapy work?

LLT uses specific wavelengths of light (photons) to modulate cell function within the target tissue (usually the skin). This works at subcellular, cellular and tissue levels. One of the primary sites of action is within mitochondria (the powerplants within cells). With age, injury and stress there is an overproduction of reactive oxygen species within the tissue. This leads to inflammation and cell death. LLT works within the mitochondria to reduce these reactive oxygen species, thereby reducing inflammation, improving healing and assiting regeneration of new tissue.

The effect depends upon the correct wavelength and density of light, delivered to the target tissue for an appropriate length of time. LED light is particularly useful because it is able to produce light in the ideal wavelengths and is powerful enough to penetrate deeply into the tissue where it is needed.

Pulsing the light can improve tissue repair and anti-inflammatory properties, while a continuous beam is better for pain relief.

How does red and blue LED light treat acne?

P. acnes bacteria (responsible for acne) produce chemicals known as porphyrins. These chemicals are activated by the specific wavelengths found in high intensity blue LED light. The activated porphyrins are naturally toxic to the acne-causing bacteria, resulting in their death. At the same time, red LED light helps to reduce inflammation, thereby reducing scarring and assisting repair.

This treatment primarily helps the papular and pustular form of acne which is due to overgrowth of P. acnes bacteria. Up to 75% of these lesions can resolve over an 8 week treatment period with a combination of light therapy (one to two treatments per week) and topical agents. Combining light therapy, topical therapy and prescription medication can result in even greater improvement.

Why is Healite™ the best form of LED Light Therapy?

Other LLT devices use standard LEDs that produce a low power, unfocussed light source. The Healite device has been developed by leading LED engineers. They have produced specialised high power LEDs that have more optical power and better energy efficiency. These produce light in 415nm, 635nm and 830nm wavelengths which are ideal for the various phototherapy uses. In addition to this, the Healite device uses Optimum Lens Array Technology (OLAT) to focus and concentrate the light to provide faster, deeper and more intensive treatments without the risk of thermal damage. It also uses Photo-sequencing technology to precondition the skin with one wavelength before treating it with another, enhancing the overall effect.

How long does it take to see results?

LLT is always performed as multiple treatments over a period of time. The duration, frequency and number of treatments vary depending on the condition being treated. Often the initial treatment protocol is a 5-20 minute treatment twice a week for 3-5 weeks, although some conditions might require a daily treatment for the first week. A treatment plan will be developed specifically for you after a medical consultation with Dr Csilla.

The final word on LED light therapy by Dr Csilla

I recommend LED light therapy after my more intense laser procedures. It reduces pain, swelling and redness, and speeds up recovery. In addition to this, LED light therapy is a quick, safe and effective treatment for papular and pustular acne, especially when used in combination with topical Vitamin A creams to reduce recurrences. In some patients, light therapy can reduce the need for antibiotics and other prescription medications. There is no pain, and no downtime. Best of all, we offer one of the most economical LED light therapy packages in Brisbane ($660 for a package of 10 treatments).
